YORK, Neb. – The York University women's basketball team lost an 80-47 game to Saint Mary Wednesday evening in a KCAC contest.
The Panthers are now 4-4 on the season, including 0-2 in league action.
Head coach
Corinna Minjarez's team was led by
Olivia Adams' 10-point effort. She also grabbed seven rebounds in the contest.
Alesia Rand accounted for seven points and six rebounds.
Sylvia Valentino and
Valeria Costilla chipped in six points apiece. Costilla dished out four assists while
Monique Contreras added four steals.
York took an early 6-2 lead on a three-ball by Valentino at the 7:58 mark. Down 9-6,
Yareli Gomez took a pass from
Kiera Parks for a lay-up. Moments later,
Alliyana Page converted an inside shot to make it 11-10. The Panthers buried two free throws with 1:36 to go in the stanza by
Destiny Shepherd, pulling the home team within two at 14-12.
York took a 15-14 lead on a three-ball from Costilla at the start of the second quarter, but Saint Mary held a 43-19 lead at the break.
For the game, York hit 19-of-69 from the floor. The team canned three shots from distance and made six free throws. The Panthers narrowly lost the rebounding contest, 44-43. Minjarez's squad snagged 19 offensive boards compared to 11 by the opposition.
York dished out 11 assists in the game and got 19 points off the bench. The team tallied 18 steals and recorded 17 points off miscues. The home team scored 30 points in the paint and had 10 second-chance points.
