Men's Basketball: Panthers lose to 11th-ranked Spires in home opener

YORK, Neb. – The York University men's basketball team lost a 76-59 decision to Saint Mary Wednesday evening.

The Panthers are now 2-6 on the year, including 0-2 in KCAC action.

Head coach Mitch McMullen's team was led by Jadin Johnson's 20-point effort and eight boards. Dave Dalge accounted for 19 points and nine boards while Logan Beckstrom totaled eight points and nine boards. Nathaniel Owen blocked a team-high two shots. Beckstrom had three steals while Johnson dished out five assists. 

Down 29-13, Johnson and Owen hit back-to-back three-point buckets, trimming the margin to 10, 29-19. However, the visitors held a 39-25 edge at the break. 

Trailing 44-28, Dalge hit two free throws and a lay-up. Devin Carroll netted a jumper as did Johnson, making it 55-38 with 13:54 to play. That was the closest the team could get the rest of the way. 

For the game, York hit 19-of-57 from the floor. The team canned five three-point buckets. The Panthers drained 16-of-17 from the charity stripe. McMullen's team pulled down 35 boards, including eight on the offensive glass. The squad dished out nine assists and had 14 points off the bench. York had seven steals and netted 12 points off turnovers. The team also scored 24 points in the paint.
