YORK, Neb. – The York University women's basketball team cruised to an 84-30 win over Ecclesia Tuesday evening.
The Panthers are now 3-1 on the season.
Head coach
Corinna Minjarez's team was led by
Destiny Shepherd's game-high 23 points. She also added eight rebounds, five assists and three steals in the win.
Alesia Rand chipped in 12 points and six rebounds while
Lawson Hiltl contributed 11 points.
Zoe Brown and
Valeria Costilla netted eight points apiece.
Alliyana Page had five points while
Olivia Adams and
Amaya Payne tallied four points each. Adams grabbed six boards.
After leading 16-14 heading into the second quarter, York broke open the game with an 18-5 edge in the second stanza. Holding a 20-15 edge, Hiltl drained a three ball. Shepherd drained a shot from distance, pushing the margin to 11, 26-15. The Panthers extended the margin to 16 on Shepherd's bucket with seven seconds to go before taking a 15-point edge into the third quarter.
With the score at 37-22 just 49 ticks into the third quarter, York embarked on an 11-0 spurt over the next four minutes to put the game away. Two charity tosses by Shepherd pushed the game to 54-24 at the 3:24 mark. Rand's jumper made it 60-24 with 1:47 to go in the stanza. Costilla found Hiltl for a lay-up just before the buzzer for a 37-point lead going into the final quarter.
Payne connected with Hiltl for a three-point bucket to forge ahead 69-27 with 9:06 to go in the game. York went on a 13-0 run over the final 4:31 for the 54-point win.
For the game, York canned 34-of-18 (42.0 percent) from the floor, including 10-of-37 from downtown. The team poured in 42 points in the paint and scored 31 points off turnovers.
