LINDSBORG, Kan. – The York University women's basketball team lost a 67-58 decision to Bethany Wednesday evening.
The Panthers are now 4-6 on the year, including 0-4 in KCAC action.
Head coach
Corinna Minjarez's team was led by
Destiny Shepherd's 25-point outing.
Lawson Hiltl added eight points while
Zoe Brown contributed six markers.
Alesia Rand added five points while
Amaya Payne and
Alliyana Page had four points each.
Valeria Costilla chipped in three points while
Monique Contreras and
Olivia Adamshad two and one, respectively.
Adams snagged nine rebounds while Page pulled down eight. Payne and Contreras had five and four assists, respectively. Contreras had four blocks while Payne totaled four steals.
Down 8-0 in the early going, Shepherd buried a three-ball off a pass from
Amaya Payne. Shepherd hit two free throws and
Alesia Rand connected on one in the first frame, but the Panthers trailed 16-6 heading into the second stanza.
With the score at 18-6, Shepherd found Hiltl for a three-point bucket at the 7:52 mark. The Swedes maintained a 32-16 edge at the break.
Down 55-38 going into the fourth quarter, York continued to play hard. However, despite outscoring the home team in the final stanza, the team was unable to cut into the deficit. Down 59-43, Payne hit a jumper. Adams made a free throw before Shepherd canned a lay-up to make it an 11-point contest. The team could get no closer than eight the rest of the way.
For the game, York hit 22-of-68 from the floor, including nine-of-29 from downtown. The team pulled down 42 rebounds, including 13 on the offensive glass. The squad had 10 assists and tallied 20 points off turnovers.
