Panthers swept by #13 Mid-America Christian

OKLAHOMA City, Okla. – The York University baseball team lost a pair of games at No. 13 Mid-America Christian University by scores of 16-3 and 12-7.

The Panthers are now 3-5 on the season.

Game one saw York take a 1-0 lead, but Mid-America Christian plated seven runs over the next two stanzas. The Panthers scored in the third, but the home team rattled off nine consecutive runs before York scored in the fifth.

For the game, Ian Heck led the way with a four-for-four performance, including two solo home runs. Jose Martinez totaled two hits, including a double. Nicholas DeMonte, Austin Grant and Austin Peterson all had hits while Trevor Peterson drove in a run and Grant scored once.

On the mound, James McCown got the start and had four strikeouts. Elvin Ramos posted two strikeouts while Anthony Del Rio had one.

With one out in the first, Heck launched a solo shot over the left center field wall. Heck came up with two down in the third and promptly launched a homer over the center field wall.

In the fifth, Grant beat out an infield single and moved to second on an error. After a hit by Heck pushed Grant to third, Peterson's groundout allowed Grant to score for the team's final run of the day.  

Game two saw the home team take a 2-0 advantage, but York got things going in the fourth. With one down, Peterson walked and moved to second on a base hit by Martinez. A walk to Cameron Reeve loaded the bags. However, a double play ended the threat.

Mid-American Christian tacked on a pair of runs in the fourth for a 4-0 lead. The Panthers got on the board in the fifth when Tyren Dorrance blasted a lead-off homer to make it 4-1. Bryce Gorecki drew a walk and Nathan Eisenmenger entered as a pinch runner and promptly swipe second base. Moments later, Eisenmenger went to third on a wild pitch. Peterson roped a double to center field, driving in Eisenmenger and Heck. A double by Martinez pushed across Peterson, tying the score at 4-4.

Trailing 7-4 in the sixth, Gorecki singled in Ryan Romero and Dorrance, pulling the Panthers within one at 7-6.

Mid-American Christian answered with a pair of runs in the seventh and three in the eighth frames for an 12-6 edge.

York continued to battle. In the ninth, Gorecki drew a walk and Eisenmenger entered as a pinch runner. He promptly went to second on a wild pitch. With two down, Heck doubled him home to pull within five.

For the game, Dorrance, Heck and Martin had two hits apiece. Gorecki and Peterson had two RBI each while Dorrance crossed home twice. Dorrance crushed a home run while Heck, Martin and Peterson recorded doubles.

On the mound, Cole Doebele got the start and had five strikeouts. Sam Maudsley worked two innings and had four strikeouts. Dakota Angielski had a strikeout while Bryce Woodard also saw time on the bump.
