YORK, Neb. – The York University men's basketball team posted a 60-57 win over visiting Kansas Wesleyan Wednesday evening on a last-second three-point shot from
Dylan Holston.
The Panthers are now 7-15 overall, including 4-13 in KCAC action.
Head coach
Tree Burks' team was led by
Andrew Bennett's 19-point, seven-rebound effort.
Rhino Hernandez added 14 points, eight assists and three rebounds while
Carl Thorpe Jr., posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds to go along with three blocks.
Holston added eight points while
DJ Leaks had four.
Eli Nutting and
Dave Dalge chipped in three and two, respectively.
The back-and-forth affair saw the visitors take a 16-15 lead before Leaks hit two free throws. A lay-up by Dalge pushed the score to 19-16. Thorpe Jr., canned a jumper, extending the margin to five, 21-16, with 7:25 to go in the period. However, KWU fought back, taking a 25-22 lead with 2:46 to play. Trailing by four, Hernandez hit a lay-up with 13 ticks remaining before intermission, slicing the deficit to two, 31-29.
Down by six, Bennett hit two free throws at the 17:31 mark. The visitors pushed the advantage to 11 before Bennett sliced through the defense for a lay-up with 11:06 to play. Hoslston buried a three-ball before Hernandez found Thorpe Jr., for a dunk at the 8:37 mark.
Bennett tied the game at 53-53, but KWU hit a lay-up. Holston found Hernandez for a three-ball with 1:56 to play.
The back-and-forth affair was tied at 57-57 on a free throw by Bennett with 1:17 to go. Neither team could find the bottom of the net again until the Panthers had the ball with 19 seconds to go. After a time-out, Hernandez found Holston, who promptly ended the game with a shot from downtown, securing the win.
For the game, York buried 23-of-54 from the floor and hit six-of-18 from the three-point line. The squad connected on eight-of-10 from the charity stripe. The Panthers scored 28 points in the paint and had 13 second chance points.
