Hodoly's RBI single gives Panthers split with Bluejays

YORK, Neb. – The York University baseball team split a doubleheader against Tabor on Saturday, falling 7-0 before using a walk-off hit for a 7-6 victory in the nightcap.

The Panthers are now 6-6 overall, including 2-2 in KCAC action.

Game one saw neither team push across a run until Tabor broke through with two runs in the seventh inning. The visitors added five more in the 7-0 win.

Cameron Reeve led the way with a two-hit performance for York. Connor Larson registered a double while Jose Martinez, Nicholas DeMonte, Cesar Galvan and Trevor Peterson all got base hits.

On the mound, James McCown went 6.1 innings and suffered the loss. He struck out five in the game. Bryce Woodard, Ruben Colliander, Anthony Del Rio and Jackson Van Roekel all saw time on the mound.

Game two saw Tabor take a 5-0 lead, but York countered with three runs in the bottom of the third. After Galvan singled with two outs, he moved to second on a wild pitch. After hustling to third on a single by Ryan Romero, a walk to Larson loaded the bags. Sam Hodoly promptly singled in two and Austin Grant ripped a single into right field to make it 5-3.

The Panthers pulled within one in the fourth when Romero singled in Martinez, who had walked to lead off the inning. York tied it an inning later when Heck drove in a run with a bases loaded walk.

Tabor pushed across a run in the seventh, but York answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning to walk it off.

With two down, Galvan singled and Nathan Eisenmenger entered as a pinch runner. Romero walked and each moved up on a wild pitch. A throwing error allowed Larson to reach safely while Eisenmenger raced home. Hodoly became the hero with a single through the left side of the infield, driving in Romero for the game-winning run.

For the game, Galvan led the way with three hits. Hodoly and Romero had two hits apiece while Hodoly drove in three runs. Romero also crossed home twice in the game.

On the mound, Dakota Angielski got the start and went 2.2 innings. He had a strikeout. Sam Maudsley tossed five frames and had five strikeouts while Nate Dalizon worked the final batter and picked up the win.

The Panthers return to action tomorrow for a single game against Tabor starting at 1 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at Yorkpanthers.com.
