Softball loses both at Bethel

NORTH NEWTON, Kan. – The York University softball team lost a pair of games at Bethel College Tuesday by identical scores of 10-2.

The Panthers are now 5-15 overall, including 0-2 in KCAC action.

Down 8-0 in the second inning, Chloe Lockhart was hit by a pitch and hustled to third on a double by Kennedie Anderson. Three batters later, Katie Taylor roped a single to right field, driving in Lockhart.

Trailing 9-1 in the fifth, Paige Chapman ripped a single to the shortstop and hustled to second when Moriah Hoshowski reached on an error. Chapman crossed home when Nevaeh Reed doubled to left field.

Bethel managed to plate a run in the bottom of the inning for the 10-2 final.

For the game, Reed led the way with two hits and one RBI.

In the circle, Alex Harwell got the start. Kaitlyn Roe worked the final 3.2 frames.

Game two saw York take a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Morgan Cameron and Chapman singled, putting runners on first and second. Each moved up 60 feet on a groundout. Reed continued her hot hitting, singling to left center field. The base hit allowed Cameron and Chapman to score.

Tied at 2-2 in the second, the Panthers had an opportunity to add to their total. With two down, Katie Taylor singled and Cameron walked. Chapman posted a hit to right field, but a groundout ended the threat.

The home team added three runs in the bottom of the fifth, securing the 10-2 win.

For the game, Chapman led the way with two hits while Reed drove in two.

In the circle, Lockhart went the distance and took the loss. She had four strikeouts.
