YORK, Neb. – The York University baseball team launched five home runs, but it was not enough in the 14-10 loss to McPherson College Monday.
The Panthers are now 9-12 on the season, including 6-7 in KCAC action.
Down 9-0 in the third frame, York got on the board.
Cameron Reeve led off the stanza with a bunt and moved to second on a walk by
Nicholas DeMonte. Reeve went to third on a fly out by
Ian Heck. A single by
Cesar Galvan allowed Reeve to trot home for the run.
Trailing 10-1 in the fourth,
Connor Larson led off the inning with a solo home run. Two batters later,
Austin Grant launched a solo shot to make it 10-3.
The Panthers pushed across another run in the sixth. Larson reached on an error and went to second when
Marek Stone was hit by a pitch.
Trevor Peterson drew a walk and DeMonte's groundout allowed Larson to score.
With the score at 13-4 in the seventh, York sliced into the deficit.
Sam Hodoly drew a one-out walk and
Nathan Eisenmenger entered as a pinch runner. He was able to take his time coming home as Larson belted a two-run round-tripper to make it 13-6.
Heck launched a solo home run and Hodoly belted a two-run blast in the eighth to bring the Panthers within four.
Down 14-9 in the ninth, Heck doubled in DeMonte, who had reached on a fielder's choice. However, York could not score another run.
For the game, Heck posted three hits, including a home run and a double. Grant and Larson tallied two hits each. Both of Larson's hits were home runs while one of Grant's was. Hodoly also recorded a home run. Larson drove in three and scored three times. Heck and Hodoly each had two RBI.
On the mound,
Elvin Ramos got the start and worked an inning.
Austin Petersen went 4.1 innings and had three strikeouts.
Marce Vasquez tossed two frames and had two strikeouts.
Ruben Colliander,
Jackson Van Roekel and
Dyllan Hinrichs all saw time on the mound.
