YORK, Neb. – The York University baseball team lost a hard fought 9-7 contest to Avila University Tuesday afternoon.
The Panthers are now 9-13 overall, including 6-8 in KCAC action.
Down 1-0 in the first,
Ian Heck quickly tied it with a solo round-tripper with two outs.
Trailing 2-1 in the fourth,
Austin Petersen singled with one away and moved to second on a base hit by
Jose Martinez. A
Cameron Reeve base knock loaded the bags for
Nicholas DeMonte, who reached on an error that allowed Peterson to tie the game.
Kai Namba reached on a miscue, plating Martinez for a 3-2 edge. Heck's ground pushed home Reeve before
Trevor Peterson's base hit knocked in
Nathan Eisenmenger, who entered as a pinch runner, and Namba, for a 6-2 advantage.
Down 8-6 in the eighth, Martinez singled to lead things off and moved to third on a base knock by DeMonte with one out. Moments later, Martinez scored when Eisenmenger swiped second base.
For the game,
Trevor Peterson had two hits and two RBI. Martinez posted two hits and scored twice. Heck launched a home run and had two RBI. DeMonte,
Austin Petersen and Reeve had hits. DeMonte and Namba also had one RBI each. Heck,
Austin Petersen, Reeve, Eisenmenger and Namba crossed home.
On the mound,
Bryce Woodard tossed five innings and had five strikeouts.

Jackson Taylor and
Ruben Colliander saw time on the mound.
