YORK, Neb. – The York University softball team split a doubleheader against McPherson College on Wednesday, falling 9-1 before winning the nightcap 4-2.
The Panthers are now 6-18 overall, including 1-5 in KCAC action.
Game one saw the Bulldogs take a 9-0 lead midway through the fourth frame. York got on the board in the bottom of the inning.
Nevaeh Reed singled and moved to second on a base hit by
Kennedie Anderson. A fielder's choice erased Reed, but
Emma Morphew singled home Anderson with a base knock through the right side of the infield.
The Panthers tried to get things going in the fifth as
Bethany Wright was hit by a pitch and Reed singled, but a fly ball ended the threat.
For the game, Reed led the way with three hits, including a double. Anderson scored and Morphew had one RBI.

Kaitlyn Roe worked 3.2 innings.
Faith Torstensen came in and tossed the final 1.1 innings in the loss.
Game two saw York take an early 3-0 lead.
Paige Chapman singled and moved to second on
Moriah Hoshowski's base knock. A wild pitch allowed each base runner to move up 60 feet. Reed singled in Chapman. A base hit to left field by
Chloe Lockhart allowed Hoshowski to race home. Anderson knocked in Lockhart for the three-run advantage.
York extended the advantage in the sixth frame. Hoshowski reached on an error and hustled to second on a base hit from Reed. Lockhart ripped a single to right field, which was deep enough for Hoshowski to cross home plate.
The Bulldogs scored two runs in the seventh and had the bases loaded, but Lockhart registered her final strikeout of the game, securing the 4-2 win.
For the game, Anderson and Reed had three hits apiece. Lockhart had a pair of base hits and drove in two. Hoshowski scored twice.
In the circle, Lockhart went the distance and had seven strikeouts. She gave up two unearned runs on just one hit in the complete-game effort.
