SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The York University softball team lost a pair of games at Evangel on Saturday by scores of 10-2 and 11-3.
The Panthers are now 6-20 on the season, including 1-7 in KCAC action.
Evangel used a seven-run third inning to break open the contest.
Nevaeh Reed and
Chloe Lockhart recorded base hits through the first four innings.
In the fifth, York got on the board. With two outs,
Faith Torstensen walked and moved to second on a single by
Katie Taylor.
Paige Chapman drew a walk and Torstensen scored when
Moriah Hoshowski reached on an error. Reed reached on a fielder's choice, pushing across Taylor to make it 7-2.
Evangel plated three runs in the bottom of the fifth for the eight-run win.
For the game, Lockhart, Reed and Taylor recorded hits. Reed and Hoshowski posted one RBI each.
In the circle, Torstensen went the distance and had two strikeouts.
Game two saw Evangel take a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first. The Valor tacked on a run in the second and three in the third for a 9-0 margin.
In the fifth,
Morgan Cameron reached on an error and went to second.
Carla Martinez and
Gracie Torstensen walked. A wild pitch allowed Cameron to score. After a bunt by Chapman, Hoshowski grounded out, plating Martinez. Torstensen scored when Reed put the ball in play to make it 9-3.
Evangel scored two runs in the bottom of the inning for the 11-3 final.
For the game, Chapman and Lockhart had hits while Hoshowski and Reed each drove in a run.
In the circle, Lockhart got the start and had two strikeouts.
Alex Harwell had four strikeouts while Roe had one.
