Panthers shut out Swedes in midweek action

YORK, Neb. – The York University baseball team cruised to a 6-0 victory over Bethany Tuesday afternoon.

The Panthers are now 14-16 on the season, including 11-10 in KCAC action.

York broke open the game in the third inning by plating four runs. Austin Grant led off the inning with a ground-rule double. Sam Hodoly reached on a fielder's choice and was replaced by Nathan Eisenmenger as a pinch runner. After stealing second base, Nicholas DeMonte roped a single to left field for a 1-0 lead.

After Jose Martinez reached on a throwing error, Ian Heck launched a three-run home run for a 4-0 advantage.

In the fifth, DeMonte doubled and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt before scoring on a balk. York tacked on another run in the sixth. Trevor Peterson singled and moved to second on a balk. Hodoly's base hit pushed him home for a 6-0 cushion.

For the game, DeMonte and Grant had two hits apiece. Each posted a double. Heck led the way with three RBI while DeMonte crossed home twice.

On the mound, Elvin Ramos got the start and worked seven strong innings. He had seven strikeouts and gave up five hits while walking just two. Sam Maudsley tossed the final two innings and had a pair of strikeouts.
