Panthers take down Falcons in game one of series

WICHITA, Kan. – The York University baseball team registered a 3-1 victory at Friends University Thursday afternoon.

The Panthers are now 15-16 overall, including 12-10 in KCAC action.

Cesar Galvan led off the second with a single to center field and moved to second when Trevor Peterson drew a walk. With two away, Austin Grant roped a single to right field allowing Galvan to score.

York increased the margin to 3-0 with a two-run fourth inning. Sam Hodoly drew a one-out walk and Nathan Eisenmenger entered as a pinch runner. Eisenmenger stole second. A walk to Grand and Cameron Reeve loaded the bags. Nicholas DeMonte singled to center field, knocking in two for the three-run cushion.

The Panthers would maintain the advantage behind the strong pitching performance from James McCown, who tossed seven innings. He had two strikeouts and gave up just three walks and three hits. Austin Peterson went 1.1 innings before giving way to Ian Heck. He struck out two batters to pick up the save.

For the game, Grant and Heck had two hits apiece. Heck had a double while DeMonte drove in two of the team's three runs. DeMonte also recorded three walks in the victory. Grant, Galvan and Eisenmenger all crossed home.

The Panthers return to action Sunday for a doubleheader at Friends University starting at 12 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at Yorkpanthers.com.
