WICHITA, Kan. – The York University baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader at Friends University on Sunday by scores of 5-4 and 13-1.
The Panthers are now 15-18 overall, including 12-12 in KCAC action.
York opened the game with a two-run first frame.
Nicholas DeMonte led off the contest with a single and moved to second on
Jose Martinez's infield base knock. After
Nathan Eisenmenger entered as a pinch runner for DeMonte,
Ian Heck doubled in both base runners for a 2-0 advantage.
The Falcons plated a run in the fifth and took the lead in the seventh.
Down 3-2 in the ninth,
Trevor Peterson tied the game with a one-out blast over the right field wall. Two batters later,
Ryan Romero crushed another solo shot for the Panthers for a 4-3 margin. However, the Falcons managed to score two in the bottom of the inning for the victory.
For the game,
Connor Larson and Martinez had two hits apiece.
Ian Heck had a two-RBI double. Peterson and Romero had a solo home run apiece.
On the mound,
Bryce Woodard worked 6.2 innings and had three strikeouts.
Anthony Del Rio tossed two innings and had a strikeout.
Game two saw the Falcons jump out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Friends University tacked on two runs in the second, four in the fourth, one in the fifth and two in the sixth for the 13-0 final.
York had a great chance to score in the fifth frame. With two down, DeMonte and Martinez recorded back-to-back hits. Heck was hit by a pitch to load the bags, but a strikeout ended the stanza.
The team broke through in the seventh.
Tyren Dorrance drew a walk and
Peyton Pinedo registered a single to center field. DeMonte was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Martinez lifted a sacrifice fly to center field, driving in Dorrance.
For the game, Martinez led the way with three hits. DeMonte, Galvan, Pinedo and Romero tallied a hit apiece in the loss.
On the mound, Heck tossed two frames and had a strikeout.
Ruben Colliander worked 1.2 innings and had a strikeout.
Jackson Taylor threw 1.1 innings and
Marce Vasquez each had a strikeout.
