LINDSBORG, Kan. – The York University baseball team posted an 11-7 win at Bethany College on Tuesday.
The Panthers are now 16-18 overall, including 13-12 in KCAC action.
York jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the high-scoring affair in the top of the first.
Nicholas DeMonte drew a lead-off walk and took second on a base knock from
Jose Martinez. With runners on second and third, he scored on a throwing error by the catcher for a one-run cushion. Two batters later,
Austin Grant's infield single plated Martinez.
Down 4-2 in the fourth,
Ryan Romero reached on a miscue and scored on a
Bryce Gorecki double down the left field line. Later in the inning, DeMonte reached on a fielder's choice and moved to second on a base knock by Martinez.
Ian Heck drove in DeMonte, tying the score at 4-4.
In the fifth, Romero singled with one away and hustled to third on Gorecki's double to right. DeMonte drove in Romero for a 5-4 advantage.
The Panthers broke open the game with a six-run sixth. Heck led things off with a single to right field and scored on
Trevor Peterson's triple to right center field. Peterson scored on a throwing error on the play.
York loaded the bags thanks to a walk to Galvan, a hit by Grant and Romero being hit by a pitch. Gorecki drove in Galvan and Grant for a 9-4 lead. Romero and Nathan Eisenmeger later scored on wild pitches.
The home team scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth, but York shut down the opposition the rest of the way.
For the game, Gorecki, Grant and Heck had three hits apiece. Gorecki drove in three while Romero scored three times.
On the mound,
Elvin Ramos worked six innings for the win and had three strikeouts.
Sam Maudsley tossed the final three innings for the save. He had a strikeout.
