YORK, Neb. – The York University baseball team posted a come-from-behind 9-8 win over #20 Ottawa with a three-run ninth inning Friday.
The Panthers are now 17-18 overall, including 13-13 in KCAC action.
In the bottom of the first,
Nicholas DeMonte was hit by a pitch and took second on a wild pitch.
Trevor Peterson and Cesar Galvon earned walks before
Austin Grant belted a single up the middle knocking in two.
Tied at 2-2 in the second,
Sam Hodoly doubled to right center field and was lifted for
Nathan Eisenmenger. After taking third on a sacrifice bunt, Eisenmenger scored on a groundout by DeMonte for a one-run lead.
The Braves countered with two runs in the third for a 4-3 advantage.
Down 5-3 in the seventh, Peterson ripped a single up the middle and raced home on Galvan's double down the left field line.
York took the lead in the eighth when
Cameron Reeve blasted a two-out solo round-tripper to make it 5-5. DeMonte roped an offering to center field and
Connor Larson entered as a pinch runner.
Jose Martinez was hit by a pitch to put two on and
Ian Heck promptly belted a single up the middle to plate Larson.
Trailing 8-6 in the ninth, Galvan drew a one-out walk.
Peyton Pinedo entered as a pinch runner and moved to second on a base knock by
Ryan Romero. Hodoly walked to load the bases. Eisenmenger re-entered as did DeMonte.
A bases loaded walk to DeMonte pushed across a run. Martinez blasted a single up the middle to win the contest.
For the game, Martinez, Heck and Galvan posted two hits apiece. Grant, DeMonte and Martinez had two RBI each while Eisenmenger and Peterson crossed home twice.
On the mound,
James McCown worked seven innings and had six strikeouts.
Austin Petersen tossed two frames and had two strikeouts to get the victory.
