LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The York University softball team lost both games of a doubleheader at the University of Saint Mary Saturday afternoon by scores of 8-0 and 6-0.
The Panthers are now 8-34 on the season, including 3-21 in KCAC action.
Game one saw the home team take a 5-0 lead in the first. The home team tacked on a run in the second, fourth and fifth for the eight-run victory.
Paige Chapman,
Chloe Lockhart and
Nevaeh Reed recorded base hits in the game while
Kennedie Anderson drew a walk.
In the circle, Lockhart worked 4.1 innings and gave up eight runs on 10 hits. She had a pair of strikeouts in the loss.
Down 5-0 in the third inning of game two,
Emma Morphew singled to center field and took second on
Gracie Torstensen's base knock to left field. A groundout put both runners in scoring position, but a fielder's choice ended the threat.
Reed belted a triple to right field in the fourth, but she was thrown out at home plate trying to stretch it to an inside the park home run.
Faith Torstensen led off the fifth with a double to right field and hustled to third on a single by
Gracie Torstensen, but a groundout ended the inning.
The Panthers continued applying pressure as
Morgan Cameron singled to right field in the sixth.
Bethany Wright singled with two away, but a fly ball ended the inning.
Carla Martinez recorded a base hit in the seventh, but it was not enough.
Gracie Torstensen recorded two of the team's eight hits while
Faith Torstensen belted a double and Reed notched a triple.
Alex Harwell tossed 4.1 innings and had three strikeouts in the loss.
Kaitlyn Roe worked 1.2 frames in relief.
