Panthers beat Warriors in final home game


YORK, Neb. – The York University baseball team cruised to a 14-6 victory over Sterling Monday afternoon.

The Panthers are now 21-21 on the season, including 18-15 in KCAC action.

York broke open the scoring in the fourth inning. Ryan Romero reached on an error and scored when Austin Grant smacked a double to center field. Bryce Gorecki ripped a single to center field, plating Grant for a 2-0 advantage. After Nathan Eisenmenger entered as a pinch runner and took third on Cameron Reeve's base hit, Nicholas DeMonte plated Eisenmenger on a single to right center field. Jose Martinez's bunt drove in Reeve for a 4-0 margin

Leading 4-2 in the fifth, Trevor Peterson walked and took third on a base hit by Cesar Galvan. Romero drove in Peterson. With two on, Reeve crushed a three-run shot for an 8-2 margin.

Holding an 8-3 lead in the sixth, Ian Heck walked and Peterson launched a two-run shot for a seven-run cushion. Galvan was hit by a pitch and Romero pushed him to second with a base hit up the middle. Two batters later, Gorecki singled Galvan home. Moments later, Romero stole third and scored on an error for a nine-run advantage.

Up 12-6 in the eighth, Grant started things off with a walk and a steal. Gorecki drew a base on balls and Eisenmenger entered as a pinch runner. Reeve laid down a bunt single to load the bags for York and DeMonte was promptly hit by a pitch to make it 13-6. Jose Martinez recorded a sacrifice fly that drove in Eisenmenger for a 14-6 advantage.

For the game, Reeve led the way with three hits, including a home run, to go along with three RBI and two runs scored. DeMonte, Galvan, Gorecki and Romero had two hits apiece. Peterson launched a home run. DeMonte, Gorecki, Martinez and Peterson had two RBI apiece while Romero scored a team-best three times.

On the mound, Elvin Ramos got the start and tossed 7.2 innings. He had six strikeouts and gave up six runs, but only three were earned in the win. Sam Maudsley entered and worked the rest of the game. He had two strikeouts.
