Softball plays hard but fall against Oklahoma Wesleyan

PRYOR, Okla. – The York University softball team dropped both games at Oklahoma Wesleyan Sunday afternoon by scores of 3-1 and 10-2.

The Panthers are now 8-26 overall, including 3-13 in KCAC action.

Nevaeh Reed opened the fourth with a base hit to left field and moved to second on a groundout by Chloe Lockhart. After moving to third on a grounder by Bethany Wright, Emma Morphew knocked in Reed with a base hit up the middle.

Oklahoma Wesleyan countered with three runs in the bottom of the inning for a 3-1 advantage.

Neither team was able to push across any more runs after the frame.

For the game, York totaled four hits – one each from Cameron, Reed, Morphew and Wright. Morphew drove in a run while Reed scored. Carla Martinez also drew a walk.

In the circle, Lockhart tossed a complete game and gave up three runs on four hits. None of the runs were earned. Lockhart struck out three and walked two in the contest.

Game two saw the home team take a 2-0 lead in the first, but York answered with a run in the second.  Wright recorded a one-out single and moved to second on a passed ball. After reaching third when Morphew was safe on an error, Wright scored when Morphew swiped second.

Down 4-1 in the third, Cameron tallied a one-out double and scored when Moriah Hoshowski grounded out.

The Eagles plated two runs in the third, fourth and fifth for the 10-2 final.

For the game, Cameron, Lockhart and Wright posted base hits. Cameron and Lockhart notched doubles. Cameron and Wright crossed home in the contest.

In the circle, Faith Torstensen got the start and worked four innings. Kaitlyn Roe threw 15 pitches in the fifth.
