JOPLIN, Mo. – The York University baseball team posted a 10-6 victory over No. 8 Avila in the KCAC Tournament.
The Panthers are now 25-22 on the season.
York jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first and never looked back. With one down,
Jose Martinez drew a walk and took second on
Ian Heck's single to left field.
Nathan Eisenmenger entered as a pinch runner for Heck and both base runners scored on
Cesar Galvan's double to the gap in left center field. Galvan took third on a wild pitch and scored on Ryan Romer's fly ball to center field.
Leading 3-1 in the second,
Connor Larson walked, went to second on
Cameron Reeve's base knock before moving to third on a sacrifice bunt by
Nicholas DeMonte. Larson crossed home on a sacrifice fly by Martinez for a three-run margin.
The Panthers continued to push forward, finding another offensive explosion in the third. With one down, Romero singled and stole second base.
Sam Hodoly walked and Eisenmenger came in as a pinch runner. Two batters later, Larson doubled in both teammates. Reeve followed it up with a single to right field, plating Larson for a 7-1 margin. The team was not done as Reeve stole second and scored on DeMonte's single to center field.
Up 8-2 in the eighth, Hodoly walked and gave way to Eisenmenger.
Austin Grant crushed a two-run shot over the right center field wall for a 10-2 edge.
For the game, DeMonte, Heck, Hodoly and Reeve had two hits apiece. Galvan, Grant and Larson drove in two runs each while Eisenmenger scored three times and Larson crossed home twice.
On the mound, Heck went seven innings and had seven strikeouts to get the win. Austin Peterson tossed 1.1 innings before
Elvin Ramos entered the contest. Ramos picked up a strikeout while recording the final two outs in the win.
The Panthers return to action tomorrow when they play at 12:15 p.m. They will face either No. 1 Oklahoma Wesleyan or No. 5 Tabor College. Live stats and video will be available at Yorkpanthers.com.
