FREMONT, Neb. – The York University volleyball team lost a 3-0 decision at Midland Tuesday evening.
The Panthers are now 2-5 on the season.
Head coach
Irick Gardner's team was led by
Brianna Lemke's nine kills.
Isidora Pa Diaz Aguirre and
Florencia Felmer added five kills apiece. Aguirre hit .364 in the match.
Kensey Clifton dished out 12 assists while
Valentina Jimenez added four. Jimenez recorded a team-best 18 digs while Felmer notched eight. At the net, Aguirre was in on three blocks, including two of the solo variety.
In the first set, York took an early 5-1 lead after a pair of errors by the home team and a kill from Clifton. Down 9-8, Felmer slammed home a kill and a miscue by the home team gave the Panthers a 10-9 edge. Trailing 12-11, a service error knotted the score. Lemke hammered home back-to-back kills before Isidora Pa Diaz Aguirre and Lemke combined for a block. An error gave the visitors a four-point lead, 16-12. Gardner's team led 19-13, but Midland managed to edge out a win, 26-24.
Down 7-2 in the second stanza, Lemke recorded a kill.
Meadow Nusbaum served up an ace before Lemke tallied another point. Nusbaum's second ace during the spurt made it a one-point contest, 7-6. Trailing 22-11,
Amber White had a block before Lemke garnered a kill, pulling the team within nine at 22-13. However, Midland secured the 25-15 victory.
York found itself down 6-2 before Lemke posted a kill and a bad set by the home team put the score at 6-4. With the score at 14-7,
Liberty Baker and Jimenez notched back-to-back kills. Aguirre added a late point, but it was not enough in the 25-11 loss.
For the match, York had 28 kills and 28 assists. The squad accounted for nine total blocks, including three solo stops.
The Panthers return to action Friday when they take on Stephens College at 11:30 a.m., and William Woods at 1:30 p.m.
