YORK, Neb. – The York University volleyball team lost a 3-0 decision to Kansas Wesleyan Wednesday evening in front of a raucous crowd in the Freeman Center.
The Panthers are now 9-12 overall and 0-1 in KCAC action.
Head coach
Irick Gardner's team was led by
Kaylee Weigel's six kills while
Ronan Merriex added five. She also hit .400.
Meadow Nusbaum distributed 18 assists while
Kensey Clifton dished out 12. Each served up a pair of aces in the match.
Valentina Jimenez picked up 17 digs.
Down 11-6 in the early going, Weigel slammed home a kill to make it a four-point contest. Two plays later,
Liberty Baker found the court. Down 15-10, Clifton found
Brianna Lemke for the point. Trailing 21-12, Baker hammered home a pass before
Kory Anschutz served up an ace to make it 21-14. However, KWU won the set 25-17.
With the score at 13-8 in the second stanza, Florencia Florence recorded a kill and an error by the visitors pulled the team within three, 13-10. Anschutz posted an ace to make it a two-point game. York made it a two-point contest multiple times but could get no closer in the period.
Trailing by one in the third frame,
Emma Kerley took a pass from Nusbaum and evened the set at 10-10. Baker gave the Panthers an 11-10 advantage. Moments later,
Jai Dotson pulled the squad within one. An attack error tied the set at 16-16. The tightly-contested stanza saw Merriex knot the score at 17-17. A service error allowed York to tie the set at 22-22, but KWU scored the final three points of the match.
