YORK, Neb. – The York University volleyball team cruised to a 3-1 win over Avila Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers are now 10-13 on the season, including a 1-1 ledger in league play.
The team was led by Lemke's outstanding day with 18 kills while hitting .472.
Florencia Felmer totaled 12 kills while
Isidora Diaz Aguirre contributed 10 kills.
Kensey Clifton dished out 27 assists while
Meadow Nusbaum added 17.
Defensively,
Jassania Joseph,
Ronan Merriex and Diaz Aguirre tallied four blocks each.
Valentina Jimenez led the way with 22 digs while
Ambar Ortiz and
Olivia Romero added 15 and 13, respectively. Clifton narrowly missed a double-double with nine digs.
York led 4-3 before Lemke found the court for a kill in the opening frame. After another kill from Lemke and an error by Avila, the Panthers maintained a 7-3 edge. Up 8-6,
Jai Dotson started a 3-0 spurt with a kill. Felmer and Merriex added a block before Dotson totaled a kill for a five-point cushion, 11-6. Holding a 17-14 lead, an error by Avila and a kill from Merriex pushed the margin to 19-14 en route to the 25-16 win.
Tied at 12-12 in the second frame, Lemke gave York an advantage. Joseph made it 14-12 with a kill before
Elena Brown served up an ace. Lemke's point extended the margin to four, 16-12. Maintaining a 22-17 margin, a miscue by Avila and a kill from
Liberty Baker made it set point. Two plays later, Felmer ended the stanza with a kill.
Leading 12-8 in the fourth stanza, Diaz Aguirre slammed home three straight kills. Moments later, she struck again for another point, pushing the margin to seven, 17-10. Up 22-15, Felmer recorded a kill.
Emma Kerley and Diaz Aguirre combined for a block before Kerley ended the match with a kill.
