FREMONT, Neb. – The York University women's soccer team lost a hard-fought 1-0 match at Midland University Wednesday evening in a non-conference contest.
The Panthers are now 0-3 on the season while the Warriors stand at 1-1-1 on the young season.
York found itself down 1-0 in the early going, but
Ellie Reynolds tried to knot the match at the 15:56 mark. However, her shot missed just high of the frame.
Harumi Cornejo turned away a pair of late attempts by the home squad, keeping it a one-goal match entering the second half.
The Panthers were aggressive just after intermission.
Gracie Reynolds' shot just 33 seconds into the period was stopped by the keeper. Just under two minutes later,
Cristina Prats blasted an attempt, but it was thwarted. In the 51
st minute,
Ellie Reynolds rocketed a shot, but it sailed wide of the post.
For nearly the next 20 minutes,
Sofia Falcao stopped shots by Midland. Then, with just under 13 minutes to play,
Emma Walsh tallied a shot on target, but it was saved. A few seconds later,
Lois Mattock also had a shot on goal that was stopped.
York was unable to post another shot in the match despite a tremendous effort.
For the match, the Panthers tallied six shots, including four on goal. The team recorded four corner kicks compared to just one by the home team.
York's
Ellie Reynolds posted a team-high two shots. Mattock,
Cristina Prats,
Gracie Reynolds and Walsh had shots on goal in the loss.
Between the pipes, Cornejo and Falcao had five saves apiece. Cornejo played 48 minutes while Falcao saw the final 42 minutes in goal.
