YORK, Neb. – The York University women's soccer team used a late second-half goal to register a 1-1 draw against Dakota Wesleyan Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers are now 0-3-1 on the season.
Cara Van Der Straaten's shot just 1:27 into the match sailed just wide of the goal. Dakota Wesleyan had a pair of attempts moments later, including one that hit the crossbar. However, neither found the back of the net as the score remained at 0-0.
Avery Heins' attempt in the 17
th minute missed wide. The visitors placed a shot on goal in the 30
th minute, but
Sofia Falcao was up for the challenge and promptly turned it away. Dakota Wesleyan broke through with a goal a the 40:25 mark for a 1-0 lead heading into intermission.
After multiple shots by the visitors and saves from
Harumi Cornejo, York's
Emma Walsh rocketed an attempt in the 66
th minute of action. However, it was wide of the frame. At the 77:25 mark,
Lucia Tornero blasted a shot that found the back of the net, knotting the score at 1-1.
Neither team was able to get much of an opportunity the remainder of the contest, rendering it a tie.
For the match, Tornero had two shots, including the team's lone goal, for the home team. York posted seven shots in the match, with one being on goal.
Harumi Cornejo stopped five shots in the contest while Falcao had one save.
