YORK, Neb. – The York University men's soccer team posted a 2-0 victory over Dakota Wesleyan Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers are now 3-1 on the young season.
Franco Bablot's shot just 5:46 into the contest sailed high of the crossbar. York did not have another opportunity until
Tylo Van Wyk's shot in the 26
th minute, which was also high.
The Panthers put a pair of shots on frame – one by
Alex Hulme and another by
Joao Vitor Tavares, but each shot was stopped by the keeper. In the 37
th minute of action,
Lucas Moraes blasted an attempt that found the back of the net for a 1-0 advantage.
York continued applying offensive pressure in the second stanza as Pablot garnered another shot in the 56
th minute of action. A few minutes later, he booted another shot, but it missed high.
After
Jamie Watt turned away an attempt by Dakota Wesleyan, the Panthers pushed forward. Moraes found Tim Schafer, who promptly registered a goal for a 2-0 lead at the 72:26 mark.
York's defense stepped up and did not allow a shot for the final 17:34, helping the team preserve the shutout.
For the match, Pablot had three shots while Moraes had a goal and an assist. Schafer had a goal in the win. Watt stopped the lone shot he faced between the pipes.
The Panthers held an 8-5 advantage in shots, including a 4-1 margin in shots on goal. York had four corner kicks.
