LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The York University men's basketball team lost a 91-81 decision at Saint Mary Wednesday evening.
The Panthers are now 5-12 on the season, including 3-8 in KCAC action.
Head coach
Mitch McMullen's squad was paced by
Jadin Johnson's 30 points.
Shaun Armstrong added 21 points while
Logan Beckstrom had 14.
Eli Nutting accounted for seven points and 10 rebounds.
Dave Dalge chipped in six markers while
Jaxon Kilmurry had three.
Beckstrom pulled the Panthers within four on a three-point bucket at the 14:10 mark, 17-13. Down 21-15, Beckstrom nailed another shot from distance before Johnson made it a one-point game with 12:06 to go. Armstrong's shot from deep gave the visitors a 25-24 advantage.
Tied at 28-28, Armstrong started a run with a jumper. Beckstrom hit a shot before Armstrong connected from deep. His second straight three-ball gave the Panthers a 38-28 lead. Moments later, York went on a 9-0 spurt for a 47-30 margin en route to a 49-37 lead at the break.
Down 60-58, Johnson and Armstrong buried shots, giving the Panthers a two-point cushion with 9:24 to play. Trailing by three, Johnson pulled the visitors within one, 65-64.
However, York could get no closer the rest of the way despite a valiant effort.
For the game, York hit 29-of-50 from the floor, including 10-of-19 from the three-point line. The squad made 13-of-18 from the free throw line. The Panthers grabbed 27 rebounds and scored 26 points in the paint.
