LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The York University women's basketball team lost an 82-54 contest at Saint Mary Wednesday evening.
The Panthers are now 6-12 on the year, including 1-10 in KCAC action.
Head coach
Corinna Minjarez's team was led by
Alesia Rand's 16-point performance. She also added six rebounds.
Destiny Shepherd had 12 points while
Alliyana Page posted eight points and 10 rebounds.
Lawson Hiltl contributed six markers.
Amaya Payne netted four points while
Monique Contreras and
Lauren Perez chipped in three points apiece. Sonya Valentino added two markers.
Perez pulled down seven rebounds, had two assists and notched a steal. Contreras added a pair of thefts.
York scored the first four points of the second period off buckets from Rand and Perez. Moments later, Shepherd hit two free throws and sliced past the defense for a lay-up. With 1:04 left to play in the half, Hiltl drilled a shot from distance, but the home team led 42-18 at the break.
The Panthers continued to compete hard, outscoring the opposition 16-12 in the third frame. However, USM managed to close out the game by outscoring York 28-20 over the final 10 minutes of action.
Minjarez's team hit 20-of-69 from the floor, including five-of-19 from the three-point stripe. York canned nine-of-14 from the free throw line. The Panthers pulled down 36 rebounds, including 16 on the offensive glass.
York forced eight turnovers and scored six points off the miscues. The visitors also had 24 points in the paint and 12 second-chance points.
