WINFIELD, Kan. – The York University men's basketball team lost an 82-55 decision at Southwestern Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers are now 6-16 overall, including 4-12 in KCAC action.
Head coach
Mitch McMullen's team placed four student-athletes in double figures.
Jaxon Kilmurry led the way with 13 points. He also added five rebounds and a pair of steals.
Jomar Ezell added 11 points and four boards. He also dished out a team-high three assists.
Dave Dalge and
Shaun Armstrong netted 10 points apiece. Each registered two thefts.
Eli Nutting accounted for nine points and five rebounds. He also swatted a shot.
Donn'Yae Ferguson chipped in two points.
Kilmurry's lay-up pulled York within one, 5-4, at the 16:45 mark. Trailing 9-4, Ezell converted a lay-up before Armstrong found Nutting for a three-ball, knotting the contest. Down 12-9, Dalge opened his scoring with a lay-up. Kilmurry found Armstrong for a three-point bucket and rattled in a jumper with 11:55 to play in the half for a 16-12 edge.
Trailing 26-18, Dalge's lay-up made it a two-possession game. Kilmurry's three-point play at the 2:51 mark pulled the Panthers within 10, 35-25. However, Southwestern led 39-25 at the break.
York was unable to slice into the deficit. The teams traded baskets the first eight minutes of the half. Armstrong's three-ball made it 55-39 in favor of the home team at the 12:34 mark. The Panthers were unable to get any closer as the home squad slowly pulled away for the win.
For the game, York hit 20-of-60 from the floor, including five-of-28 from downtown. The squad canned 10-of-11 from the charity stripe. The Panthers pulled down 17 rebounds and dished out seven assists. York scored 13 points off turnovers and connected on 28 points in the paint.
