YORK, Neb. – The York University baseball team lost both games to Dakota Wesleyan on Friday by scores of 4-0 and 8-3.
The Panthers are now 5-12 on the season.
Head coach Brian Walth's team saw the visitors push across a run in the second, one in the third and two in the fourth for the 4-0 win.
York tried to knot the game in the third. With two down, Gio Tarin drew a walk before Jose Martinez rocketed a single to the outfield. Tarin went to third on the throw, but both runners were left stranded on a groundout.
Thomas Bonde walked and reached second on a fielder's choice an inning later, but two were left on base.
For the game, Martinez and Morgan recorded hits.
On the mound, Elvin Ramos tossed a complete game. He had nine strikeouts and gave up four runs – three of which were earned – on seven hits.
Game two saw the visitors take a 4-0 lead in the top of the third. The Panthers got on the board in the bottom of the stanza. Tarin drew a lead-off walk and moved to second on Martinez's infield hit. After an Austin Petersen walk loaded the bases, Tarin scored on a double play ball.
Dakota Wesleyan scored a run in the fourth and fifth for a 6-1 lead. After back-to-back walks to start the Panthers' at bat, Martinez and Petersen moved up 90 feet due to a wild pitch. Morgan's sacrifice fly made it 6-2. Petersen later came around to score on a wild pitch, pulling York within three. However, the visitors pushed across two more runs in the final two innings.
For the game, Hudson John, Martinez and Morgan posted hits.
On the mound, Bryce Woodard struck out eight in 4.2 innings. Austin Copeland worked an inning with a strikeout while Evan Tordiffe had two strikeouts in 1.1 frames.
