SALINA, Kan. – The York University softball team split a doubleheader at Kansas Wesleyan, taking the opener 2-1 before falling 7-0 in the nightcap.
The Panthers are now 9-21 on the season, including 4-6 in KCAC action.
Head coach
Aaron Alvarez's team scored two runs in the sixth for the 2-1 lead off a two-run shot by
Taylor Jones.
In the second, Jones posted a lead-off single and took second on a groundout by
Taylor Larson. However, she was left stranded in scoring position.
Jones belted a two-out double to left center field in the fourth, but a fly ball ended the threat.
Emma Peeples was hit by a pitch in the fifth. She swiped second but back-to-back outs ended the frame.
Down 1-0 in the sixth,
Bethany Wright posted a two-out hit into center field.
Sydney Rann entered as a pinch runner and was able to trot home on Jones' two-run shot over the left field wall.
For the game, Jones posted three hits, including a home run and a double. She drove in two and scored. Larson, Peeples and Wright all had hits while Rann crossed home.
In the circle,
Lexi Knapp got the start and tossed 5.2 innings. She gave up one run on five hits and had a strikeout.
Ashley Falk recorded the final 1.1 innings and picked up the save. She tallied a strikeout in the win.
The second game saw the home team push across three runs in the first and four in the second, which proved to be enough for the win.
York recorded three hits in the game – from
Megan Brownson,
Brooklyn Hadl and
Lexi Knapp.
Shannon Nelson drew a walk.
In the circle, Larson tossed 1.2 innings while
Ashley Falk worked the final 4.1 frames. Larson gave up seven runs – two of which were earned – on five hits. Falk gave up two hits.
