YORK, Neb. – The York University softball team picked up a sweep over Bethel on Sunday, winning 6-2 and 17-3.
The Panthers are now 11-21 on the season, including 6-6 in KCAC action.
Head coach
Aaron Alvarez's team took a 2-0 lead behind runs in the first two frames. With one down in the first,
Shannon Nelson walked and swiped second. Two batters later, she raced home on a single by
Taylor Jones. One inning later,
Bethany Wright took the first pitch she saw and ripped it down the right field line. After a sacrifice bunt from
Emma Peeples,
Kailyn Ruckman's base hit plated Wright for the two-run cushion.
With two down in the third, Jones doubled and trotted home on a home run by
Lexi Knapp. On the ensuing pitch, Wright blasted a solo shot to left center field for a 5-0 margin.
Leading 5-2 in the sixth, Peeples belted a single down the left field line and stole second. Ruckman ripped a single up the middle on a 1-2 count, driving in Peeples.
For the game, Ruckman led the way with three hits. Knapp and Wright had home runs while Jones and Larson notched doubles. Knapp drove in two while Wright scored twice.
In the circle, Knapp went the distance and picked up the win. She had a strikeout.
The second game saw the Panthers jump on top with three runs in the first and five in the second.
Brooklyn Hadl doubled and moved to third on an error. Larson crushed a one-out, two-run home run over the left field wall. Ater Jones walked, she scored on an error as Knapp singled through the left side of the infield.
With Ruckman and
Morgan Cameron in scoring position, Nelson recorded an infield single. With two down, Jones drew a walk, plating Ruckman. Knapp singled home Cameron and Nelson for a 6-0 lead. Wright's base hit scored Jones and Peeples knocked in
Moriah Hoshowski, who entered as a pinch runner.
Leading 8-3 in the third, an eight-run inning by York put the game out of reach. Larson's base hit plated Cameron. Moments later, Knapp's single up the middle knocked in Nelson and Larson for an 11-3 score. Two batters later, Peeples posted an infield hit that scored Jones. Ruckman singled home Knapp and Peeples for a 14-3 cushion. Hadl and Nelson each singled, scoring Ruckman and Cameron, respectively.
York tacked on a run in the fourth when
Sydney Rann reached on a fielder's choice and
Megan Brownson scored on a throwing error.
For the game, Knapp had three hits and three RBI. Hadl, Nelson, Larson, Wright, Peeples and Ruckman had two hits apiece. Larson drove in three while Peeples and Ruckman had two RBI each. Jones and Cameron crossed home three times apiece. Nelson, Larson and Ruckman each scored twice.

Ashley Falk tossed a complete game and had a strikeout.
