WICHITA, Kan. – The York University softball team split a pair of games on Saturday, taking down Waldorf 10-5 before falling 16-4 to Benedictine.
The Panthers are now 5-13 on the year.
Against Waldorf, York took a commanding 5-0 lead through two innings. Up 5-4, York tacked on a run in the fourth. Leading 6-4, the Panthers plated four runs in the sixth en route to the 10-5 win.
Brooklyn Hadl drew a walk and swiped second base. Two batters later,
Taylor Larson singled her home for a one-run edge.
Morgan Cameron drew a walk and took second on a bunt single in the second. She scored on Hadl's base knock to left field. With two down, Larson doubled home
Moriah Hoshowski and Hadl. After a walk to
Taylor Jones,
Lexi Knapp plated Larson with a base knock to left center field.
In the fourth,
Emma Peeples singled through the left side. After Larson walked and Jones singled, Knapp drove in Peeples with a single to left field.
With the score still at 6-4, Jones reached on a two-out dropped pop-up. After stealing second, Knapp smacked a two-run home run.
Caitlyn Dannenfelzer singled and trotted home on
Megan Brownson's homer to center field for a 10-4 edge.
For the game, Knapp had three hits and four RBI. Larson had two hits and drove in three while Hadl crossed home twice.
In the circle, Larson went the distance for the win. She had a strikeout.
Against Benedictine, the Panthers trailed 2-0 entering the second frame. Jones led off the inning with a single to second and took second when Knapp reached on a fielder's choice. Hadl's bunt single loaded the bases for
Bethany Wright. She hit into a double play, but Jones scored on the play.
Morgan Cameron doubled home Knapp, knotting the score at 2-2.
Trailing 16-2 in the fifth, Cameron recorded a one-out single and moved to second on a bunt by
Kailyn Ruckman.
Shannon Nelson took the first pitch she saw and crushed it over the center field wall, making it 16-4.
For the game, Cameron had two hits, including a double. Nelson smacked a two-run home run.
In the circle, Knapp got the start and worked 2.1 innings.
Madison Sayer threw one-third of an inning and
Kory Anschutz tossed 2.1 innings.
