YORK, Neb. - The York University baseball team picked up a sweep over Southwestern Friday afternoon by scores of 10-0 and 5-0.
The Panthers are now 15-25 on the season, including 13-15 in KCAC action.
Head coach
Brian Walth's team took an early 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the first,
Jose Martinez roped an 0-1 pitch into center field. He took third on
Gio Tarin's double to left field. Three batters later,
Austin Petersen reached on a fielder's choice, which allowed Martinez to race home.
York pushed the margin to 2-0 with a run in the fifth. With one down,
Sam Hodoly singled and
Noah Prasad entered as a pinch runner. He promptly swiped second and scored on
Hunter Arellano's double to the gap in right center field.
The Panthers extended the lead in the sixth.
Bryce Gorecki crushed a homer over the left field wall. Martinez singled and moved to third on Tarin's base knock through the left side.
Landon Morgan doubled home Martinez. Tarin later scored on a wild pitch for a 5-0 edge. With the bases loaded,
Mason Gorecki was hit by a pitch, allowing Morgan to score. Two batters later,
Nathan Eisenmenger smashed a grand slam over the left field fence for a 10-run margin.
For the game, Martinez, Tarin, Arellano and Eisenmenger had two hits apiece. Eisenmenger posted four RBI on the grand slam while
Bryce Gorecki launched a solo shot. Martinez scored twice.
On the mound,
Bryce Woodard tossed a complete game, striking out two. He only allowed five hits in the impressive shutout.
Game two saw the Panthers jump on top in the second frame.
Sam Hodoly tripled down the right field line but was erased on a fielder's choice. Arellano's single put runners on first and third. Eisenmenger's double plated
Austin Petersen. Eisenmenger scored on a balk before
Trace Hall's base hit knocked in Eisenmenger.
Bryce Gorecki doubled home Hall for a four-run margin.
In the fourth,
Bryce Gorecki reached on a fielder's choice and Prasad entered as a pinch runner. Tarin's single down the right field line allowed Prasad to cross home for a 5-0 advantage.
For the game, Arellano and Hall had two hits apiece. Hodoly recorded a triple while Eisenmenger and
Bryce Gorecki posted doubles.
On the mound,
Elvin Ramos recorded a three-hit shutout and had 11 strikeouts.
