OTTAWA, Kan. – The York University softball team lost both games of the doubleheader at Ottawa on Saturday by scores of 4-3 and 11-2.
The Panthers are now 14-26 on the season, including 9-11 in KCAC action.
Head coach
Aaron Alvarez's team took a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
Brooklyn Hadl led off the game with a base hit to left and hustled to third on an error by the catcher with one down. Two batters later,
Taylor Jones garnered a base knock to right field, plating Hadl.
In the third,
Morgan Cameron singled and took third on Hadl's double to left field. Two batters later, Cameron scored on a groundout by
Taylor Larson.
Ottawa took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the third and tacked on a run in the fifth for a 4-2 lead.
The Panthers countered in the top of the sixth. Jones smacked the first pitch she saw to left field for a double. Two batters later,
Emma Peeples belted a pitch into center field, allowing Jones to race home.
For the game, Hadl had three hits while Jones tallied two.
In the circle,
Lexi Knapp worked 2.1 innings.
Ashley Falk threw 3.2 frames.
Game two saw the home squad take an 8-0 lead through four innings. York pushed across a pair of runs in the fifth.
Larson singled and swiped second with one down.
Caitlyn Dannenfelzer's infield hit allowed Larson to score on an error.
Moriah Hoshowski's single to center field plated Dannenfelzer.
Ottawa scored three runs in the bottom of the inning for the 11-2 win.
For the game, Larson, Dannenfelzer, Hoshowski and
Shannon Nelson had hits.
In the circle,
Ashley Falk went 2.0 innings while Larson worked 2.1 frames with two strikeouts.
