MCPHERSON, Kan. – The York University baseball team lost a 9-1 decision at McPherson College Friday evening in a league contest.
The Panthers are now 13-22 on the season, including 11-12 in KCAC action.
Head coach Brian Walth's team recorded a hit in the second inning off the bat of Marek Stone, who blasted a 2-2 offering with one away to center field. Jay Twedt drew a walk, but a double play ended the threat.
The Bulldogs plated a run in the bottom of the second. McPherson College added seven runs in the fourth for an 8-0 lead.
Down 9-0 in the sixth, Gio Tarin rocketed a single to center field on a 2-2 count. He stole second and Jose Maritinez drew a walk. With one down, a wild pitch allowed both runners to move into scoring position. However, back-to-back outs ended the inning.
The score remained the same and in the ninth, Austin Petersen led off with a single through the left side of the infield. A double play erased Petersen. Sam Hodoly drew a walk as did Noah Prasad. Twedt doubled home Hodoly, making it 9-1.
For the game, Petersen, Stone, Tarin and Twedt had hits. Jose Martinez drew two walks while Hodoly and Twedt also earned walks.
On the mound, Bryce Woodard had two strikeouts in 3.1 frames. Jaret Mellow had two strikeouts in 2.1 innings of work while Mason Gorecki notched two strikeouts in two frames. Ruben Colliander also saw time on the mound.
