Softball: Panthers fall to Bethany on senior day


YORK, Neb. – The York University softball team dropped a pair of games on Senior Day to Bethany College by scores of 5-3 and 4-0. 
 
The Panthers are now 14-24 on the season, including 9-9 in KCAC action. 
 
Head coach Aaron Alvarez's team trailed 1-0 entering the bottom of the first inning. Brooklyn Hadl drew a lead-off walk and swiped second. Shannon Nelson singled and Hadl crossed home on a throwing error by the pitcher. Nelson used her speed to swipe second and third. After Taylor Larson walked and stole second, a fielder's choice with one down put Nelson out at home plate. However, Bethany Wright propelled the Panthers to a 2-1 lead with a base knock through the right side. 
 
The visitors scored three runs in the fifth for a 4-2 edge, but York cut the deficit to one in the sixth. Jones reached on first on a throwing error and scored when Lexi Knapp singled. Knapp moved to second on an error while Jones crossed home on a throwing error, making it 4-3. The Swedes scored a run in the seventh for a two-run margin. 
 
For the game, Nelson, Larson, Jones, Knapp and Wright posted hits. Wright drove in one while Hadl, Larson and Jones all scored. 
 
In the circle, Knapp tossed 4.1 innings and had two strikeouts. Ashley Falk tossed the final 2.2 frames and posted a pair of strikeouts. 
 
Game two saw the visitors plate a run in the second, fourth, fifth and sixth innings for the 4-0 lead. 
 
York had a rally in the bottom of the seventh. With two down and facing an 0-2 count, Emma Peeples recorded an infield single. Lydia Slocum entered as a pinch runner and hustled to second when Wright reached on a fielding error. However, a fielder's choice ended the contest.
 
For the game, Nelson and Peeples recorded hits. 
 
In the circle, Falk threw 5.2 innings and had a strikeout. Larson finished the contest by tossing the final 1.1 frames.
