CRETE, Neb. — York (1-0-0) secured a decisive 4-1 victory over Doane (0-1-0) on Wednesday evening. The Panthers capitalized on its offensive efficiency, outshooting Doane 17-10 and netting two goals in each half.
York began the first period showing offensive intent, but it was Doane that initially took the lead with a goal in the ninth minute. Despite several opportunities, including a penalty kick by
Tim Schafer, Doane's goalkeeper kept the Panthers off of the scoreboard.
York finally evened the score at 1-1 when
Finlay Lee notched a goal at 29:52, with an assist from
Tylo Van Wyk. The visitors continued to press forward, and Lee struck again in the 42nd minute, assisted by
Fionn Brereton, giving York a 2-1 advantage. York went into the intermission leading 2-1.
York asserted control in the second period with decisive offensive pressure. Brereton broke through with a goal 81st minute as he was assisted by
Ethan Bowman and
Joao Vitor Tavares, expanding their lead to 3-1. Just over a minute later, Schafer capitalized further with a goal assisted by Tavares, sealing the match with a 4-1 advantage for York.
Lee led York by tallying two goals, including the game-winner, on both of his shots. Schafer contributed by adding one goal on two shots, both on target. Van Wyk added an assist, complementing his two shots with one on goal. Tavares was notable for providing two assists, demonstrating his playmaking ability. Brereton posted a goal and an assist, marking a well-rounded performance in the game.
