Cory Minjarez scored 33 points, 22 in the second half, but it wasn't enough to get the upset over Oklahoma Wesleyan Friday night. The Panthers had their hands full and found themselves in a dogfight going into halftime. York was playing well but unable to keep up with the Eagles until just under two minutes remaining in the first half. The Panthers were down by 8 points before they finished the half on a 9-0 run to take the lead going into the half.
To start off the second half York built their lead to three points before Oklahoma Wesleyan went on their own run and controlling most of the second half. The Eagles built an 8 point lead and held onto that for most of the second half. The Eagles built their lead up by as much as 13 points but the Panthers kept fighting. Cory Minjarez scored 8 points in a row to give York their final lead with just over six minutes remaining. Unfortunately Wesleyan then went on a 12-1 run. With just under a minute to play the Panthers cut the deficit to five points but were unable to get any closer. The Eagles finished out the scoring winning 93-84.
Coach Madole was pleased with the effort, "We played reall well tonight for all but three possessions, unfortuantely those three possessions were the difference in the ball game. I am extremely proud of the heart we showed tonight. Some things didn't go our way but we dug in and kept battling."
Cory Minjarez led all scorers while Zanoria Echols and Alyssa Becker also put up double digits with 14 and 10, respectively.
The Panthers finish out their home season Saturday as they host Haskell University at 3:00pm
