Women's Basketball: Johnson & Wales too much for Panthers

The Lady Panthers fought hard in their home debut Saturday but the Wildcats outlasted the Panthers in an offensive battle 88-83. Head Coach Matthew Madole said, "Overall, this was a good game. Both teams played hard and made plays throughout the contest. It came down to that last minute. We weren't able to hit a few shots down the stretch and they were."

The Panthers took the lead into the half 42-41 thanks to a buzzer beater 3-point shot by McCorra Ford (JR/Gillette, WY). Ford led all scorers with 27 points. Greer Kleber (SR/Walnut Creek, CA) was right behind with 22 of her own. "I think McCorra and Greer both played really well tonight. They both have the ability to make plays and do things with the ball I can't coach. They'll be a special duo the next few years," said Madole.

Jordan Nelson (SO/Seward, NE) led the team with 12 rebounds while Ford also contributed 10.

Madole said "obviously, losing four starters from last years team is tough to overcome. But I like this team, I like the talent we have brought in. I think the more they play together, the more they will gel. It's a process just figuring each other out. But as long as we play hard, we'll be right there most every night."

York will be back in action Tuesday evening as they host Bethel College at 6:00 pm in the Freeman Center.
