Panthers can't hang with (RV) Bethany College

YORK - York College women's basketball fell to (RV) Bethany College 68-38 Wednesday night in the Freeman Center. In the Panthers first conference game of the season they were handed their worst loss of the season.

The Panthers scored the first basket of the game as Melody Thomsen (JR/Westminster, Calif) scored off of a Swede turnover. Another basket by Thomsen made it a 4-3 game and that was the final time the Panthers led in the ball game. York trailed by eight points at the end of the first quarter 16-8. York scored the first four points of the second quarter behind the Swedes went on a 19-3 run to extend their lead to 35-15 at the intermission.

The second half didn't start any better for the Panthers as York was outscored 21-5 in the third quarter. After scoring just 20 points in the first three quarters combined the Panthers found some offense in the final frame scoring 18 points before the final whistle.

York struggled shooting the ball, converting less than 28% from the floor. The Panthers were led by Thomsen's 11 points. Ciara Williams (SR/San Diego, Calif) was strong on the boards bringing down eight before fouling out after 20 minutes of play. The Panthers also struggled to hold onto the ball turning it over 24 times, as Bethany converted those into 26 points.

York falls to 2-3 on the season and 0-1 in KCAC action. The Panthers are back in action Saturday afternoon as they travel to North Newton, Kansas to play Bethel College. That game is slated for a 3:00 p.m. tip off.
