YORK - After holding an eight point halftime lead the Panthers convert just blank baskets the entire second half as they fall to the University of Saint Mary Spires 49-42.
York held a 15-6 lead after the first quarter before being outscored the final three quarters. After both teams struggled to find much offense in the second quarter the Spires came alive scoring 30 second half points. York scored just 15 points the second half, scoring only four points in the third quarter.
Fouls and turnovers plagued the Panthers all night. York committed 26 turnovers, which the Spires turned into 21 points. York also picked up 29 fouls over the course of the night.
Amaia Diez (FR/Pamplona, Spain) led the Panthers with 15 points, 12 of which came in the first half. Diez was the only Panther to score in double figures, as Melody Thomsen (JR/Westminster, Calif) scored eight. Ciara Williams (SR/San Diego, Calif) continued to be strong on the boards as she collected 10 rebounds.
Head Coach Corinna Latorre was pleased with how her defense played, holding their opponent to under 50 points and forcing 20 turnovers. However, the offense couldn't find their zone shooting just 26% from the field, converting just five field goals in the second half.
York falls to 0-5 in KCAC play and 3-7 overall. York will travel to McPherson College on Wednesday for their next game. The Panthers will be back at home on Saturday as they face Avila University.
