Women's Basketball: Bethel's strong third quarter dooms Panthers

YORK - York held a nine-point advantage at the intermission, but a 33-12 third quarter sealed the game for the visiting Bethel College Threshers. York's defense was key in the first half forcing the 15 Thresher turnovers and held them to just 29% shooting from the floor.

Bethel's presence was felt in the paint and they scored 55 points in the paint to just 27 by York. The Panthers fouled 33 times as the size of Bethel's post players were tough for York to adjust to.

The Threshers shot 52% from the floor in the second half and only committed five errors. York's shooting percentage fell to 26% and was felt as their second half total points scored was just 24.

Amaia Diez (FR/Pamplona, Spain) led the Panthers with a team high 16 points. Ciara Williams (SR/San Diego, Calif) added 12 points, and Maria Lopez (JR/Mendota, Calif) came off the bench to score 11. Kendall Fike (JR/Ada, Okla) and Lopez led the Panthers with five rebounds each.

York's highlight of the night came in the last three minutes of the second quarter as York went on a 14-0 run to end the first half up 38-29, thanks in part to Diez scoring eight of her 16 in the stretch.
