YORK - Nineteenth ranked Tabor College led 17-7 after the first quarter and never looked back as 13 different players scored for the Bluejays in their 71-40 win. York scored the first basket of the ball game but then was shut out over the next four minutes of play before Melody Thomsen (JR/Westminster, Calif) ended the Bluejays 9-0 run. Thomsen also made a long three-pointer to end the first quarter for York.
Thomsen led all scorers with 13 points. Kendall Fike (JR/Ada, Okla) added eight points to go along with her team high five rebounds. Nakia Hackel (JR/Arlington, Texas) added eight points off of the bench.
York shot just 28% from the field in the first half but still found themselves in the game down 34-19. However, the Bluejays started clicking in the second half and they opened up on a 15-0 run to put the game away.
York held the 19th ranked team to under 40% from the field, but couldn't get their offense rolling to make a difference. The defense forced 15 turnovers but was only able to convert those into six points.
The Panthers will travel to play Bethany College on Thursday in Lindsborg, Kansas before hosting Bethel College on Saturday afternoon in the Freeman Center. That game will start at 3:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN3.
