Box Score YORK - York got the jitters out early and ran away with a 102-49 win in their season home-opener in front of a Homecoming crowd on Friday night. York's offense came alive against Kansas Christian College shooting over 45% from the floor. Amaia Diez led all scorers with a career-high 34 points. Julia Trujillo wasn't far behind as she added 27 points.
The Panthers took over three minutes to score their first points of the season as they trailed 4-0 with 6:51 remaining in the first quarter. York outscored the Falcons 23-7 after that and never looked back. In the second quarter, the Panthers used a press to break the Falcons as they forced turnovers and helped their offense shoot over 47% in the quarter. At the intermission, the Panthers led 44-21. York didn't slow down in the second half as they shot over 49% from the field and scored 58 points.
As a team, the Panthers forced 35 turnovers and scored 43 points off of those turnovers. York also picked up 27 second-chance points to just four by the Falcons.
York's defense held the Falcon's to 32% shooting for the game and had a plus-10 rebounding advantage.
The Panthers shot 37 times from beyond the arc and converted on 14 of them. The Falcons shot 40 times from the floor all night.
York has a tough task ahead as they travel to College of St. Mary on Tuesday night to face the Flames. The game is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off.
