YORK, Neb. – The York University women's basketball team lost a 74-40 contest to Tabor College Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers are now 2-7 overall, including 0-5 in league play.
Head coach
Corinna Minjarez's team was led by
Olivia Adams' eight points. She also grabbed six boards.
Destiny Shepherd added seven points and two steals.
Alliyana Page contributed six points while
Britney Schroer totaled five points.
Clara Romero had four points and seven boards while
Monique Contreras and
Kiera Parks had four points apiece.
Trailing 9-2, Romero canned a jumper. Shepherd nailed an old-fashioned three-point play before Shepherd's lay-up knotted the score at 9-9 at the 3:54 mark. The teams traded the next eight points. A lay-up by Adams made it 13-13. Adams tied it again at 15-15 with 20 seconds to go in the quarter, but the visitors hit a shot with seven seconds to play for a 17-15 edge.
Tabor outscored the home team 41-13 over the next two quarters, but the Panthers continued to battle. Trailing 65-28, Minjarez's squad rattled off the next eight points. Parks and Adams hit two free throws apiece. Adams took a pass from Shepherd and made an inside shot. Adams then found Contreras for a lay-up at the 5:36 mark. A Parks' lay-up and two charity tosses from Page completed the scoring for York.
For the game, York hit 15-of-56 from the floor. The squad canned 10-of-16 from the charity stripe. The Panthers pulled down 35 rebounds, including 11 on the offensive glass. York dished out seven assists and had nine steals. The home team posted 28 points in the paint.
