Panthers Split With Bobcats In Friday Doubleheader

BRANSON, Mo. – The York University baseball team split a doubleheader Friday at the College of the Ozarks, winning the first game 11-2 before falling 9-2 in the nightcap.

The Panthers are now 3-3 on the season.

Trailing 1-0 heading into the fifth inning of game one, head coach Brian Walth's team got things going quickly. With one down, Isaac Stark doubled down the left field line and he was able to trot home when Secundino Morales blasted a two-run round-tripper.

Tyren Dorrance kept up the hot hitting with a base knock to right field. He raced to third on a double by Ryan Romero. Daniel Polo's base hit scored both runners for a 4-1 advantage. Moments later, Austin Grant's double brought home Derek Dunn, who had come in as a pinch runner for Polo.

The visitors added to the lead in the sixth stanza. Stark singled and moved to third two batters later when an error allowed Dorrance to reach safely to load the bags. He came home on a miscue for a five-run edge. A walk to Polo extended the margin to six at 7-1. A pair of sacrifice flies by Ian Heck and Sam Hodoly gave the Panthers an eight-run cushion.

York tacked on to the lead in the seventh frame. With runners on second and third, Morales delivered a two-RBI single to center field, scoring Cameron Reeve and Stark.

For the game, Heck, Morales and Stark all had three hits. Morales led everyone with four RBI while scoring twice. Polo drove in three runs while Stark crossed home three times. Dorrance and Romero each scored twice.

Heck was outstanding on the mound, going the distance. He gave up two runs while scattering five hits and walked just two in the victory.

In game two, the home team broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth inning by plating five runs. The home team scored three runs in the fifth and one in the sixth for a 9-0 lead.

York got things going in the seventh. Derek Dunn doubled to left field and Alonso Martinez walked. Stark reached on a fielder's choice to put runners on first and third. Morales reached on an error, allowing Dunn to score. Peyton Pinedo's base knock to center field plated Stark to make it 9-2.

For the game, Dorrance, Dunn, Morales and Pinedo all had hits. Pinedo drove in a run while Dunn and Stark each scored.

Dalton Juden got the start and worked 3.1 innings with a pair of strikeouts. Cole Doebel also had a strikeout on the mound in the game.

The Panthers return to action tomorrow when they play a doubleheader for the final two games of the series starting at 11 a.m.
