LINDSBORG, Kan. – The York University baseball team crushed four home runs and
Austin Grant led the way with a career-high seven RBI in the 17-5 victory at Bethany.
The Panthers are now 14-19 overall, including 6-14 in KCAC action.
Head coach
Brian Walth's team jumped on the board in the second inning and never looked back.
Ian Heck led off the frame with a double and
Ryan Romero drew a walk. A sacrifice bunt pushed both runners into scoring position. With the bases loaded,
Bryce Gorecki lifted a sacrifice fly that plated Heck.
Cameron Reeve brought in everyone with a three-run blast for a 4-0 advantage.
Leading 4-1 in the fourth, York struck again. Gorecki singled and
Isaac Stark came in as a pinch runner. Reeve singled, pushing Stark to second.
Austin Grant reached on a fielder's choice, but it erased Stark. Two batters later,
Cesar Galvan reached on an error, driving in Reeve. Heck singled home Grant for a five-run lead.
Up 6-4, the Panthers broke the game open in the fifth.
Nicholas DeMonte drew a walk and moved to second when Gorecki reached on an error. Reeve reached on a miscue, loading the bags for Grant, who belted a grand slam for a 10-4 edge.
After a pitching change,
Secundino Morales launched a solo round-tripper. Galvan doubled and scored on Romero's groundout, giving the visitors a 12-4 lead.
The teams traded runs in the sixth, with York scoring on Grant's base knock that plated Stark.
The Panthers continued to cross home plate in the seventh. Heck led off the stanza by being hit by a pitch. Three batters later,
Trevor Peterson entered as a pinch hitter and used his opportunity to register a two-run home run for a 15-5 margin. Gorecki wrapped a base hit to left field and Stark came in as a pinch runner. He made it to third on Reeve's base knock to right field. Grant doubled in both teammates, forcing another pitching change.
For the game, Grant pounded out four hits, including a homer and two doubles, to go along with seven RBI and two runs scored. Reeve blasted three hits, including a homer, with three RBI and four runs scored. Morales and Peterson each hit round-trippers. Stark scored three times in the victory.
On the mound,
Sam Reynolds got the start and worked 3.1 innings and had a strikeout.
Sam Maudsley tossed 1.2 frames with a strikeout and did not give up a run.
Cole Doebele worked an inning while
Fred Juden tossed one-third of a frame with a strikeout.
Ruben Colliander came in with one away in the seventh and finished off the game with back-to-back outs.
