YORK, Neb. – The York University women's basketball team lost a 79-62 contest at Ottawa Saturday afternoon.

Ashley Rubio's 16-point, six-rebound effort.
Destiny Shepherd added 14 points as did
Britney Schroer.
Monique Contreras added nine points while Psiko Hvichiani totaled five points in the loss.
Hvichiani snagged nine boards while
Alliyana Page had eight in the loss.
York took an early lead behind a jumper from Rubio and a three-ball from Contreras at the 8:56 mark. The Panthers pushed the advantage to 11 after a jumper by Schroer and a free throw to go up 12-1. However, Ottawa pulled within one at 18-17 before Schroer canned a jumper off a pass from Hvichiani. York maintained a 20-18 lead going into the second quarter.
Down 48-28 entering the third frame, York trailed by 30 just before the end of the stanza. Shepherd found Page for a jumper at the buzzer, slicing the deficit to 28.
A strong defense by York only gave up five points in the final 10 minutes of action, but the Panthers were unable to overcome the deficit despite a solid effort. In the final quarter, York outscored the home team 16-5.
For the game, York hit 20-of-63 from the floor, including five-of-18 from the three-point line. The squad hit 17-of-22 from the charity stripe. The Panthers pulled down 44 rebounds and scored 22 points in the paint.
